Miami Swim Week History

Miami Swim Week has a long history. So let’s get started...

Jimmy Woodman organized the first swim week in 1989. The event began as a collaboration between Florida Sports Magazine and the University of Florida. It was a tremendous outcome, and  successfully continued until 1998. The event, however, was discontinued in 1998 and was resumed in 2005. Miami Sports International, a subsidiary of Swim Gym Aquatics, was crucial in the event's revival. Jonathan Strauss, the fourth-year captain of the University of Florida Swimming Team headed the event.

Miami Swim Week over the years has organized many sub-events during the swim week. including an annual open water swimming competition held in Florida. The last time the event occurred was on April 17th, 2016 The H2O foundation, which was created to eradicate drowning in South Florida.

The main goal of Miami Swim Week was to elevate open water swimming to the forefront of aquatic sports. The organizers of this tournament hoped to improve open water swimming so that it may become an Olympic sport. Additionally, this event was developed to assist swimmers in giving back to the sport. Within a short period of time, the event became incredibly popular, with people flocking to locations like Globo Surf to shop. Even some former Olympians have competed in this event. Tiffany Cohen, Robert Strauss, Nathan Adrian, Ed Moses, Anthony Ervin, Ricardo Monasterio, George Bovell, and Gary Hall are among the names on the list.

Lila Nikole

When talking about swim shows we cannot skip Lila Nikole…

The Lila Nikole Collection is swiftly establishing itself as one of the most popular swimsuit companies. After rebranding from Amaya Swimsuit in 2009, the newly relaunched swimwear brand has only grown further.

With each passing year, the momentum continues to build as a direct result of the effort, creativity and fashion-forward instincts of the designer, Lila Nikole Rivera.

The Lila Nikole Collection has been featured in Elle, Sports Illustrated, The Source, Vibe, and many other publications.

Will Smith, Kim Kardashian, Jenny McCarthy, Keyshia Cole, Mya, Vivica Fox, Serena Williams, Chrissy Tiegen, Sara Underwood, Jessica Perez, Erica Mena, Gigi Hadid, Farrah Abrahams, Amrezy, and others have all worn her swimsuit, earning her the title of celebrity favorite swimsuit designer. The list is still growing.

The Lila Nikole Collection became a nationally recognized brand after her fourth appearance on BET's Rip The Runway in 2013, which resulted in hundreds of thousands of visitors to her website. Demand and orders grew swiftly, and every major swimsuit event began contacting Lila Nikole to include her collection in their displays.

Her line has been featured on CNN Espanol, Fashion TV for Best Swimwear, she provided suits for all of the girls competing on Univision's Nuestra Belleza Latina, and she was included in Sports Illustrated's 50th Anniversary swim edition. And if that weren't enough, Lila has also partnered with ten NFL teams and two NBA teams to offer swimwear for the cheerleaders' swimsuit calendar, featuring unique design suits for the NFL season kickoff event and HBO's Hard Knocks: Miami Dolphins.

The Lila Nikole Collection was a vision that was built from the bottom up into a profitable business thanks to the designer's ambition and initiative, and Lila Nikole's achievement in building a significant swimsuit brand has not gone unnoticed. Her ability to grow her company to where it is today piqued the interest of a collegiate psychology class, and she was subject featured recently at Feldman University.
