WITH THE SHOW, SHOWTIME® OFFERS INSIDE LOOK AT THE MAKING OF THE PEPSI SUPER BOWL LV HALFTIME EXTRAVAGANZA
Rare Glimpse Behind the Scenes of the Year’s Biggest Live Performance Executive Produced by Emmy® Nominee Jesse Collins and Directed by Emmy Nominee Nadia Hallgren
NEW YORK – February 10, 2021 – SHOWTIME has announced that it will air THE SHOW, a 90-minute feature documentary that will provide a unique, first-ever look into the making of the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, starring The Weeknd. Executive produced by Emmy winner Jesse Collins (John Lewis: Celebrating a Hero) and directed by Emmy nominee Nadia Hallgren (Becoming), THE SHOW is produced by Pepsi and Boardwalk Pictures (7 Day’s Out, Chef’s Table) and will premiere later this year.
This past Sunday, more than 100 million people around the world tuned in to watch The Weeknd’s visual and sonic artistry on the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show stage. What the world witnessed was the product of tireless hours, days and months of collaboration among first-time Halftime Show executive producer Collins, brought on by second time Executive Producers, Roc Nation, and entertainment industry visionaries to pull off one of the biggest music and entertainment productions this year – during one of the most logistically challenging times. Despite the logistical challenges the collective team faced, the result is what the world saw Sunday - and one of the most inventive and entertaining performances to date. While Sunday’s show may be over, its story is just beginning.
“The scale and scope of the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show stage is unmatched; heading into Sunday, the stakes couldn’t have been higher for our brand, the league, the artist camp and our partners,” said Todd Kaplan, Vice President of Pepsi Marketing. “With the last year essentially going completely virtual, production plans and procedures had to be re-written – but with Jesse Collins, Roc Nation and talented creatives at the helm, we were able to truly pull off one of the most spectacular shows to-date. With our new documentary coming to SHOWTIME, we cannot wait to give fans a peek behind the curtain into the emotional and thrilling journey of pulling together the biggest performance of the year.”
“Anchored by The Weeknd’s dynamic performance, THE SHOW is a worthy snapshot of the tremendous artistry and effort that goes into the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show,” said Kent Sevener, Vice President Content Acquisition & Business & Legal Affairs, Showtime Networks Inc. “Jesse Collins has been absolutely passionate about this project, and Nadia Hallgren, an expert in the craft of vérité storytelling, brings the kind of energy and insight that will make this behind-the-scenes look a transformative experience and something unique for SHOWTIME viewers.”
THE SHOW is being brought to life by award-winning filmmaker Hallgren, who most recently directed Becoming, a documentary about former First Lady Michelle Obama that was released in 2020 and nominated for four Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Director for a Documentary.
